Thai Food Recipes

December 14th, 2009 · No Comments · General Recipes

Thai food recipes are a lot of fun for people that like to cook, and you can get used to them to your own tastes. All over the world Thai cuisine has become popular and most major cities have Thai restaurants and take out. Indian and Chinese influences have formed the foundation of dishes in Thailand with rice and rice noodles being staples. Fish, fruit and vegetables are chosen for their freshness. The typical three ingredients in Thailand are lime juice, lemon juice and coriander. Thai people favor strong flavors and curries are commonly eaten. Mix fries are popular too. Chilies are sometimes added for more kick. Several dishes have a slight blend of spices and coconut.

The ingredients needed for home Thai food recipes are easily obtainable at supermarkets and stores. Fried Noodles or Pad Thai are rice noodles that should be soaked at room temperature for approximately an hour, allowing them to soften. They are frequently together with shallots, dried shrimp, fish sauce, chives, roasted peanuts, tofu, tamarind and bean sprouts, stir fried together in a wok. Some cooks add chili powder. Spicy Fried Fish Cakes (Tod Man Plaa) are very delicious and make an outstanding lunch or snack. Halibut or Fresh cod can be used and the cakes are ready with stringbeans, kaffir lime leaves and red curry paste. Fish curry is another favorite Thai food recipe, including Thai Prawn and Pineapple Curry (Kaeng Khua Saparot). The dish can be accompanied with a cool, cucumber relish. This creamy curry uses red curry paste, coconut milk, chopped tomatoes, fish sauce, kaffir lime leaves, lime juice, basil leaves and chili peppers.

Another popular main ingredient is Chicken. Penang Chicken Curry (Penang Gai) is a dish from Malaysia that became a favorite Thai food recipe. Chicken can also be used in a casserole, as in Thai Chicken Casserole (Gai Kaeng). With coconut milk, finely shredded basil leaves, fish sauce, curry paste, and kaffir lime leaves the chicken is prepared. The chicken is marinated in turmeric, shallots, root ginger, peanut oil, and garlic. The spicy stock is made with coriander seeds, shrimp paste, cardamom pods, shallots, chili peppers, cumin seeds, and coconut milk.

It’s good to cool the palate with a bowl of ice cream after a hot and spicy first course. Thai Coconut Ice Cream is made with coconut milk, heavy whip cream, sugar, eggs, and sweet basil leaves. This can also be made as a chocolate and ginger version. This, together with fruit, is an accepted dessert, the most general flavor being coconut. This is so simple to make and only requires ripe bananas, coconut milk and sugar. Kluay Namaun or Sweet Coconut Bananas is another dessert. Usually this dish is served with sweet, sticky rice. You could drink as the Thais do if you truly want an authentic Thai experience with your Thai food recipe. Fruit juice is another favorite, to which basil seeds are added sometimes. One of the most accepted drinks is coconut water. Iced tea is frequently on the menu and Red Bull is really a version of a Thai brand.
